Oil removal vs wax removal

Quick answer

Machining oils, release oils and polishing wax differ in origin and residue. Identify the actual contamination rather than relying only on a shiny surface appearance.

Selection and validation

For dewaxing, review wax type, trapped residues, equipment and rinsing. Validate aluminium/zinc alloys and stainless steel separately; results on one substrate do not establish compatibility with another.

QOH-313 and QOH-314 provide dewaxing directions in the current catalogue. QOH-315 has no complete published record and is not presented as a validated dewaxing recommendation. Provide a component or wax sample for assessment.

Before a component trial

  • Alloy grade, finish and actual contamination.
  • Equipment, trial concentration, temperature, time and water quality.
  • Rinsing, drying, downstream requirements and agreed acceptance criteria.

Check documentation: Product models · Certificate and test report originals · Request model-specific TDS / SDS
